Three weeks ago, we left for Summer vacation. We're not the type of people to sit around and do nothing, so we had a busy program.
Our first stop was Venice, the 'city on the water'.
What do I say... It was hot, (we hopped from one shadow to another to keep cool, which - with 40 degrees C even in the shadow - was quite impossible), it was busy, and it was expensive... But besides all that, it was one of the most charming cities I've ever visited.
The water, which makes the city that famous, is also a huge problem. Most houses are build on wooden poles, which are getting more and more damaged by the sea water. Many houses and buildings prolapse. There are restauration works going on aswell as other projects, to protect the city from the damage done by the water and the many floodings.
Of course we visited the centre of the city, with the famous San Marco Square, the Doge's Palace and the Canal Grande with the Rialto bridge. But also the less famous streets and places definately are worth a visit.
For our next stop, we went more South, to the lovely region of Tuscany, but more about that later...
Have a nice Monday!
