No surprise Eze was, just like last year, the place to spend the first part of our holiday. After a 13h trip (which was well spend making some flying geese for my Carousel quilt) we arrived at the Eze Hermitage hotel where we would stay the first week.
The hotel is located on the Col d'Eze, from where one has a wonderful view over both the sea and the valley on the other side. Next to the hotel is the famous Grande Corniche road, a winding road on the mountains high above the sea with the most amazing panorama's, as well as a natural reserve.
Because of the draught, a forest fire broke out, just a couple of hundreds of meters from our hotel. Luckily fire departments from the surrounding regions arrived quickly and with 8 Canadairs and 100 fireman, they could control the fire that same evening and limit the damage to 4 ha.
Unlike when I'm on 'quilt tour' and I always forget to take photo's, my camera and I are inseperable when I'm on a holiday, so please prepare yourself for MANY pictures!
Of course we visited Eze itself. It's a small town and we've seen it many times before, but it's very inviting to take another look and discover new things.
The second day, Philippe went cycling and I visited Nice. I love the narrow streets and the bright colored houses! I don't like to drive in the mountains, so I took the bus, which stopped right in front of our hotel and dropped me off in the centre of the city. I visited the old town, the boulevards with parks and fountains, the beach and the market at the Cours Saleya.
