Ruim 500 quilters...

Over 500 quilters have downloaded the pattern of the pyramid block. It's nice to see that you too love this simple, but beautiful pattern!

Several times, I've been asked if my pile of scraps is diminishing now that I'm working on this quilt. I can't say 'no', because of course, many of the scraps have been used already. But, I did expect the pile to diminish a bit faster then it does...

Do I mind, that I still have so many scraps left? No, not at all, because look how beautiful they all look in this quilt! I'm happy to be working on a quilt that captures so many memories and I'm sure I'll find a lovely pattern for the remaining scraps when this quilt is finished. After all, working with these leftovers is quite addictive.

Last week I had some other projects to work on, so the pyramids stayed in their French basket, but tonight will be a good night to cut some more white pyramids and sew a new row. How is your pyramid quilt growing? Or maybe you have downloaded the pattern, but didn't get started yet. In that case I must warn you: after making one or two blocks, I promise you'll get hooked! ;o)

While working on the Chinese Lanterns, I was breeding on the plans for a new patchwork class. I've been asked to give a one-day patchwork class several times, mostly by people who live far away and can't come to class every 2 weeks.

Therefore I've planned a one-day patchwork class, to teach you everything about patchwork, starting from drawing the blocks, right untill finishing the top. Besides the normal instructions on making a patchwork top, you will also get lots of useful tips and tricks on how to make the perfect top. The date will be March 24 (9.30 h - 16.00 h) and the cost will be 60,00 euros. For more information please visit our website.

If you'ld like to join, please send me an e-mail with your details and I'll send you all information. Mind you: spots are limited!

Fijn weekend!

Now on with the lanterns. Eventhough I usually don't use such bright colors, I do love this quilt. Especially the cute backing fabric that I've bought at The Log Cabin. I love it! I hope to finish the lantern quilt soon and add some of the fabrics in my pyramid quilt aswell.

Have a nice weekend!

Last weekend we visited Jacqueline, where I bought  border and backing fabrics for the pyramid quilt. First, I wanted to make a scrappy border, but I thought it would be too much, since I prefer my quilts to be not too 'busy'. So I chose a beautiful red fabric with small flowers for the border and a yellow fabric (which is quite surprising, since I don't particularly like yellow), with small twigs for the binding and backing. What do you think? Will it become a nice quilt?

Frummelen...

The last weeks I seem to have a lot on my mind. Therefore, I want to finish up some quilty things first, because the number of projects I'm working on, is making me feel nervous. Sunday, while hailstones and snow fell from the sky, it seemed a perfect day to start finishing the first project.

I picked up a project I wanted to make 'in between' the other projects, but because I'm not so handy with other things than quilts, I didn't know how to tackle assembling the pincushion and I layed the project aside.

After some puzzling (really, the pattern is clear, but I'm really clumsy making these things...) I quite got the hang of it, and I did manage to sew the circles to the sides.

Now I only need to stuff it and close the opening, and then another project is finished and ready to use!

Happy stitching!

Spelletjes...

When visiting Mams, we always play games like memory and 'Twee in één klap' (Two at one blow). We've played these games since we were little girls, and we could enjoy it for hours (and we still can, though we hit each others hands a bit harder now, when we want to be the first to take the right card!). Mams always used to write the dates in the boxes, and take pictures of us with our gifts, so we know that 'Twee in één klap' dates back to 1990, from ZusJes 3rd birthday. The Disney memory has no date on it, it wasn't a birthday present, but it's older than the 'Twee in één klap' game.

By the way, these birthday pictures weren't always succesfull. Look at the one below, from my 2nd birthday, where I don't look so happy.

And when Mams asked me to smile, this was the result... Not much better! ;o)

I remember we always brought the memory game when we were on a holiday (we kept it in a white plastic Curver box with a blue lid, so it didn't absorb much space in the car). We had lots of fun, playing the game, but also copying the pictures from the cards as well as we could. We especially loved the cards with Thumper, because he's such a cute character, and neither of us wanted to have the cards with the evil Madame Medusa and the crocodile :o)

While playing the games this weekend, I noticed the pyramid quilt that was lying besides me on the table, and I thought it would be nice to capture the memory of playing games in the quilt by making 2 equal pyramids (representing both games) and placing them in the quilt. Of course, I will place them in the quilt at randomly chosen places, so it will be a nice game to find the two equal blocks, later.

Tomorrow, I'm going to visit Mams and I bring...

- In The Fields and the latest Mini Quilt, so I can sew the binding on by machine (it's the only part of quilting I sometimes do by machine)

- some quilts for Jacqueline to display in her shop

- the Lantern Festival, because I'ld like to buy a matching backing fabric

- and my pyramids to work on while traveling.

Fijn weekend!

But first, I'm going to teach the ladies of the advanced patchwork class how to sew curves tonight.

Have a nice weekend!

The cold from the past weeks has made room for grey and rainy weather. Sunday, the morning sky looked very beautiful, with light blue, yellow and pink colors, but since yesterday mist and thick raindrops have made the last snow disappear and everything looks grey again. But, good weather or bad weather, nothing keeps Jane from visiting me!

This week, I worked on block E-12 'Mary Ruth's Corset', an easy block, but somehow I managed to sew the middle part wrong. I don't know what I was doing, at least I was not paying attention to my block...

Happy stitching!

Anyway, the block is finished and I've also sewn together another row of blocks to add to the top later. Eventhough there's still a lot of work to be done, I know that one day, this quilt will actually be finished... ;o)

Happy stitching!

Smullen...

A quilt class isn't complete without something tasty. Therefor, yesterday, I made 3 sorts of cupcakes. Really fast, really easy, and - most important - very delicious! The cinamon cupcakes were an experiment, but they turned out quite well.

Eet smakelijk!

So here's the recipe, for all you bakers out there:

Mix 200 grams of melted butter with 4 eggs, 200 grams of white sugar and 200 grams of self-raising flour. Split the dough in 3 parts. For the vanilla cupcakes: take 1 part dough and mix it with 8 grams vanilla sugar. For the almond cupcakes: mix 1 part dough with 8 grams vanilla sugar and some chopped almonds. For the cinamon cupcakes: mix 1 part dough with 2 teaspoons of cinamon (powder).
Put the dough in the paper cases (I used really small ones, their diameter is only 3 cm and they're so cute!) and bake them 16 minutes in a 160 degrees Celsius pre-heated oven. If you make larger cupcakes, you might have to bake them a bit longer.

Bon apetit!

Oh, as you can see, I stored my cupcakes cat-proof ;o)

Vorstverlet?

Most builders have to stay at home because of the cold. At the temporary employment agency where I work, we have to ask social security payments for many of the temps because of the holdup.

But on this construction site, work is never put down. No safety helmet is needed, and neither do I feel the cold. Just like a real bricklayer, I put one 'stone' on the other, only I prefer to use needle and thread instead of cement ;o)

The number of finished blocks is growing and growing. Because it takes only 10 - 15 minutes to finish another pyramid, it's a perfect project to do in the morning, when you're ready to go to work but you have still some time left, or while the ovendish is in the oven, or...

Now that almost 2/3 of the blocks is finished, it's time to sew some more blocks together. I've marked 'help lines' in the seam allowance. This way, I make sure the storeys of each pyramid are on the same height in the quilt. It's only a small deed, but it gives a perfect result!

Fijn weekend!

For now, I have to change my safety helmet and worker's gloves for a chef's cap, and bake some cake, because this afternoon 4 ladies are joining me to learn a bit more on how to appliqué using freezer paper.

Have a nice weekend!

"Everybody wants to be a cat..."

Fijne dag!

Remember the song from 'The Aristocats'? Well, if I see Thijs like this, sleeping all day and enjoying the warmth of the central heating, I totally agree! ;o)

Have a nice day!

With each new quilt I start, I collect more and more scraps...

Last weekend, I started working on the new Mini Quilt, and look: some bright colored fabrics are to be added to my pyramid quilt. I save even the tiniest scrap, because for the top of the pyramid a small piece of fabric will do.

Veel quiltplezier!

I love working on the Mini Quilts. They're all made from fabrics from my stash, so I can make a whole project whenever I want, without having to buy materials first. And now that the scraps can be used in another quilt at once, it makes it even more fun! It feels like finally my stash is diminishing (a little!) ;o)

Happy stitching!

'n Witte wereld...

Last weekend, Philippe and I went for a walk.

Because of the snow, the world looks much different then normal. We enjoyed the beautiful wintery scenes, which, I hope, will last a few more days.

Look, the corn stumps are rising above the snow. How much different it looks in Summer!

We warm ourselves in "het Boshuisje" (which means 'little house in the woods')...

... heerlijk naast het haardvuur.

... near the fireplace.

And then it's time to go back, because the night still sets in early and the first stars have already appeared.

Back home, there's a new project waiting for me to start with, but more about that later!

4 februari 2012

Yesterday, large white snowflakes fell down from the sky and covered the land with a white 'blanket' within no time. I love snow, since it makes the world look so beautiful and peaceful.

Inside the house, it looks like we're living in a snow-hut: the skylight windows are completely covered with snow, and I dare not open them. The central heating is on, and Thijs is making sure he will not freeze... ;o)

Another row of pyramids is ready to be sewn to the top, but they will have to wait. Because I will choose fabrics for the March mini quilt first. The pattern is due in 3 weeks, so I have to get started!

Happy stitching, and enjoy the snow ;o)
