Hectisch...

Fijn weekend!

Things are kind of hectic over here at the moment as something big might be going to happen... In the meanwhile I try to calm my nerves while quilting the new Angel quilt...

Have a nice weekend!

Garen...

A while ago, I bought some of the nicest colors of embroidery threads. I usually use DMC, since they have a wide range of colors and it's available in most shops. But, over the years, we noticed that DMC doesn't have those specific autumny and wintery colors, which are common in quilting fabrics, and which we needed for fusible webbing appliqué.

Jacqueline verkoopt in haar winkel verschillende kleuren Venus borduurgaren.

Jacqueline has quite a range of Venus embroidery thread in her shop. Venus does have those specific colors, so I choose some of the most beautiful colors to buy.

Fijne dag!

These threads do look lovely displayed like this, but I must wind them on the cardboard cards and store them safe from light, dust and Thijsje ;o)
Oh, the Double Chocolat Mini Charm Packs in the picture are so cute and I couldn't resist to buy two of them. I do have designed a quilt to use them in, but all I need now is time...! Any store where I can buy that?

Have a nice day!

Last minute quiltje...

About 2 years ago, I decided to not just start new projects, but to finish some 'old ones' too. I still amaze myself that I keep up with this good intention so well - mostly, I forget about them just a few weeks after New Year's Day. Now that there are some new projects, like the Angel, in my project baskets, I filled the last empty one with a UFO.

You might remember this quilt, because the pattern was a gift with your Christmas order last year. My family already knows me for having last minute ideas and too little time to work them out, and this sure is an example of that. I came up with the idea for a gift just a few days before we started our Christmas in July sale, and I hadn't enough time to design and finish the project in time. To make sure we could send the pattern, I only finished the top.

Since I really love this mini quilt, I definately don't want it to be left unfinished, especially not because it only needs some quilting and a binding to finish it. Wouldn't it be nice if I could hang it this Christmas? I guess this weekend, one of the quilt preperations I'll be doing, is to baste this quilt, so I can quilt it next week.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Hallo...!

When a project is finished, I take the basket in which I kept it and I clean up all the materials which are in it. Fabric goes back in the white cardboard boxes, DMC threads are put back in the drawer and papers with sketches and notes can be thrown away.

But I don't like to keep an empty basket, so most of the time, it's filled with a new project the same day. This time, a cute little face pops through the opening in the basket to say hello... You might have guessed already: a new angel is on it's way!

PS.

Last time I wrote I was almost halfway the centre of the pyramid quilt. Today, I've sewn on the 9th row, which means I can start with the second half of the quilt.

Fijne zondag!

Somehow, 'second halfs' always seem to go by faster then the first, just like on vacation, or during the workweek (except for quilting. Quilting the border of the quilt always seems to take much more time then the rest). So who knows, maybe this goes for patchwork too, so that the second half of the centre of the quilt might be finished in less time then the first.

Have a nice Sunday!

Winter In Blogland - Blok 8

We've had 8 weeks of fun, working on the Winter In Blogland quilt. I hope you all enjoyed it!
We've seen many blocks already (still working on the photo gallery, sorry!) and today, we can reveal to you the finished quilt.

I always feel contradictory when I finish a quilt: on one hand, I enjoy working on each of my projects and I'm always a bit sad when it's finished, on the other hand, of course, I'm happy to have another finish and to enjoy the final result.

But now the quilt is going to make a trip to Spain, where it will be exhibited by Inés and Marta on a local quilt show (I'm sure they will write about it on their blog when the time comes, so if you live nearby, make sure to visit!).

It was such a pleasure organising this project and we do want to give a big thank you! to Jacqueline, Inés & Marta and Els for their inspiration, ideas and creativity.

Now it's time for the final block. A block, which I think, is very appropriate to the quilt. Not only because we like to drink liters of warm tea during the winter, but also because I can't quilt without a large cup of tea nearby (I like cinnamon flavoured tea in winter!), especially when it's druk from a nice cup!

Fijn weekend!

Have a great weekend!

The basket... a simple block, very beautiful, but also quite intriguing...

In the Dear Jane quilt, as printed in the book, block J-12 - Rebecca's Basket, is on it's side. I was wondering why Jane would place the basket that way. Could it be an error? I couldn't imagine, since the quilt looks to be made with so much care.

Then I noticed the cornerblock, with Jane's name on it, and I started to get the impression that not Jane, but Brenda made an error. Just take a look at the block as shown in the book. Personally I would be too proud having finished such a beautiful quilt, to write my name that way! OK, it's nice to know how much pieces the quilt contains (and this number is quite impressive), but, honoustly, I'm more interested in the name of the maker.

Last week, I came up with the question about the block again, while piecing my own version of the basket. I put my block aside, because I really needed to unsolve the mystery of the basket block. So I googled for the original quilt, which is displayed in the Bennington Museum, and look what I found:

As you can see, the quilt in the book is turned by a quarter and in the quilt as displayed in the museum both the basket block and Janes name block are positioned in the right way.

Fijne dag!

As for my quilt, I decided to leave it this way untill I have finished the quilt. It's easier to just place the basket 'on it's side' and finish the instructions and numbering as given in the book. But when the quilt is finished, I'll make sure to display it like the original.

Have a nice day!

Denken...

Fijne zondag!

While I'm busy working on a new design, I'm being watched closely. He watches every line I draw and every stitch I make. I sometimes would love to read his mind and see what he's thinking...

Have a nice Sunday!

Nieuwe blokjes...

I noticed that, eventhough I'm working on the quilt for over 5 years now, these tiny Dear Jane blocks keep fascinating me. Not only the designs, which are lovely, but also why Jane choose these specific designs, what she thought while making the blocks,...

Three new blocks are finished: I-12 Fred's Square Fair, K-12 Doris's Dilemma and J-12 Rebecca's Basket (which I will show you later).

Fijn weekend!

While I'm stitching away, Mams is not doing any quilting at all for the moment. She has had a surgery for her gallbladder last Wednesday. She's home again, but she's been very sick from the surgery and the narcosis. ZusJe and Rick are taking care of her, and I do hope she will recover soon!

Have a nice weekend!

Winter In Blogland - Blok 7

After quilting my projects, one of the most important things has te be done: adding a label to the quilt.
My labels always contain the name of the quilt, my name and the year. In case of the Winter In Blogland quilt, the label is a bit larger then usual, since this special quilt contains 6 names instead of one :o)

After appliquéing the label to the back of the quilt, it's time for the final step: sewing the binding.
Next week we'll show you the final result!

But first, it's time for the 7th block. We need to make a little trip to Spain, to Inés and Marta, who made a beautiful Christmas bauble. A quite labourious block, but a lovely winter scenery and a perfect addition to the quilt!

Happy stitching!

Winter Wonderland...

It has been a bit quiet on my blog the last few days. I had a terrible cold, and I found myself hugging the box of Kleenex for days. Although I'm feeling a bit better now, I still keep the Kleenex close and worse... I look like Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer...

Despite of my cold, I did finish my snowman quilt, called 'Winter Wonderland'. I'm very pleased with the result. It has a lovely scrappy, cozy look and it does make me long for Winter.

I used fabrics from my stash. A large piece of ecru background is needed (I always make sure I have enough ecru background fabric in stock), the rest of the quilt is made from scraps. Eventhough not all fabrics go well when placed right next to eachother, the final result is just lovely.

I quilted a diagonal grid. Simple, but it does justice to the appliquéd image on the quilt. I've said it before: beautiful doesn't need to be difficult! Some rusty bells on the Christmas tree as a finishing touch and Winter Wonderland is ready to decorate my home this winter!

PS.

Winter In Blogland - Blok 6

Last week I showed you how I quilted the centre of the quilt, now it's time for the border.

With every quilt I make the same mistake: when the centre is quilted and just the border is left to quilt, I think I'm almost done. But on the contrary, the border seems to be more work then the centre.

In this case, I did put in some extra work, because I thoutght a quilted wreath in the border would add more beauty to the quilt. And although it was a lot of work, I don't regret choosing this pattern!

Happy stitching!

Now it's time for another corner block. This week an easy one, but very beautiful. It's designed by Jacqueline, so hop on over to her blog, to download the pattern.

Happy stitching!

Even terugblikken...

While quilting, many thoughts pop up in my head. Like what project to work on when my snowman quilt is finished? I think of the lovely comments and pictures we receive on the Winter In Blogland quilt (I'm a bit behind in posting them in the photo gallery, sorry!). And what project did I work on last year?...

It might not be a surprise that last year I was working on... a snowman quilt! Eventhough I already made quite some of those, I believe one can never have enough snowman quilts.

In the meadow we can build a snowman..."

'In The Meadow...' is one of my favorite mini quilts. The stitchery blocks show the progress of building a snowman, and I love how they're combined with the patchwork blocks. It's such a cozy little quilt and I love to display it during the winter. The text in the border is from one of my favorite Christmas songs (which I admit, I sing throughout the year ;o) ) "In the meadow we can build a snowman..."

It's a bit too early to fill my house with snowmen, but I'll just keep this one within reach. Eventhough I prefer the autumny weather to last a while longer, one might never know when winter arrives, and calls for all things snowman!

PS.

PS. The quilt was part of the Mini Quilt Club, which you can, by the way, still sign in for. A new pattern will be shipped this week.
